How to give your home accessories a festive makeover

There is so much choice when it comes to decorating your home ready for Christmas - everything from trees, wreaths, garlands and candles. On this blog post, we're going to share some of our favourite ideas for giving your everyday home accessories a festive makeover.

With so many ways to style your home for Christmas, all year round accessories can end up being put away or looking out of place amongst all the other decorations. We're sharing our favourite ways to simply refresh your accessories to give them a festive makeover, letting you get creative and having fun in the process. We hope the ideas give you some inspiration for how you can make your home feel even more Christmassy this year, whilst not costing too much money!

Here's our favourite ways to transform every day home accessories ready for Christmas.

1. Add pine cones, dried orange slices and decorative cinnamon sticks to lanterns

Using your favourite lanterns to showcase the things that most remind you of Christmas. We love using rustic pine cones, dried orange slices and decorative cinnamon sticks to give lanterns an instant Christmas makeover. The glass sides of a lantern can mean you really show off the decorations inside. You can either put an LED candle in amongst your decorations or place battery operated fairy lights to beautifully illuminate the lantern. We recommend using battery operated candles and fairy lights, not only for safety, but switching them to the 'timer' mode also saves you from having to keep taking them in and out and needing to fix your beautiful display each time.

2. Display festive potpourri in a decorative dish

Transform your favourite dish by adding some festive potpourri. There are many variations of potpourri to match your Christmas colour scheme and style. Rustic pine cones, wooden stars and berries bring different shapes and textures to give your dish a festive feel. Not only will this look beautiful, but the smell will instantly make you think of Christmas. In this photo, we have paired a white and neutral potpourri in a rustic stone dish.

3. Add snowy branches and berry stems to a rustic vase

Another way to add a festive feeling to your home is by swapping out some all year round faux flower stems for winter branches. You can either put together an entire winter bouquet or just add some feature stems amongst your usual green eucalyptus to give the bouquet a winter makeover. To complete the look, style your arrangement in a rustic stone vase.

4. Create a Christmas wonderland scene using a tray

Trays are a great way to get creative and frame a wonderful festive display. Choose a tray that is a suitable size for the space you want to place it. You can use decorative moss, a small garland or pine cones on the base of the tray. You can then place tea light holders, small candle holders or Christmas ornaments dotted around your tray to creative your festive scene. Trays can make a great feature and talking point on a console table or coffee table.

5. Place a hurricane lantern in the middle of a Christmas wreath

Our seeded eucalyptus and pine cone wreath makes a wonderful centrepiece, especially when you style a hurricane candle holder or lantern in the centre (always remember never put a naked flame near your wreath for safety reasons). On a dining table, style your wreath centre stage and place complementary objects, around it to create a festive tablescape. Placing battery operated lights in amongst the foliage can help bring that cosiness into the home.

Christmas is a time to make your house feel warm and cosy, ready to create wonderful memories with the people you love.

We hope the ideas in this blog have inspired you to think about different ways you can utilise your existing home accessories and give them a Christmas makeover. We hope you enjoy putting your own creative flair to the ideas, have fun and don't forget, you can never have too many battery operated fairy lights at Christmas!
